MILAN (Thomson Financial) - Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena SpA expects a decision on the sale of a majority stake in its asset management unit before mid-June, BMPS deputy managing director Marco Morelli said.

'In the next two or three weeks, before mid-June,' Morelli said on the sidelines of a conference.

Morelli said formal binding offers had been made from Italy and abroad. 'We are evaluating them,' he said.

BMPS has previously said it intends to sell 66 percent of its asset management business, half to financial investors and the other half to industrial investors.

NOTE: BMPS DECISION HAS A GREAT INFLUENCE ON THE MARKET.
